It may seem counter intuitive to be pitching another business when what you really want is to be bringing attention to you are own. I get that, but in the world of social media it's important to remember that if you are not offering your followers non-marketing posts you will get lost in the algorithm. Having said that you can definitely make sure that your posts are informing your followers AND showcasing how great you are too! The most important thing about a review is that it needs to be genuine. I only post positive reviews and I stand behind every word. PRO TIP: Take the time to find the correct usernames (they can be different on different platforms). This way the business that you are reviewing will know about the review and can comment or share it. WIN WIN! Here are some ideas: ♥️Review a great local take-out experience on #TakeOutToronto day ♥️Talk about a product, service or supplier. Think new yoga classes, great curbside pick up, new products in a local store, a favourite menu item… ♥️A shoutout about a book/movie/podcast can be informative to your clients and position you as an expert. ♥️Inform your followers about an initiative that is close to your heart. It gives them an insight into who you are and what’s important to you. PRO TIP: I keep a list and notes about review opportunities and then post them when I need some fodder. Not up for a full-fledged review? Find the business/book/service that you really enjoyed or had a great experience with and share a post about them on your page or share it in your stories.

It’s a really good idea to regularly audit your website and all your social media profiles. I suggest you do it every six months or so. If you have a marketing budget, I would include this as one of things on your to-do list. I would start by going through your website to make sure everything is up to date. Try and answer these questions. 1. Does it describe your business the way it is now, rather than when you created the website? 2. Is everything you are offering now represented on the site? 3. Check hours of operation, menus, event calendars… Anything that may have changed in the last little while, to make sure the information is accurate. 4. Are there any pages you should be getting rid of or adding? Give it some thought. Now that your site best represents what you are offering, you can go in a little deeper. ✔️Check for spelling errors and gramatical errors. Often you’ll see something you missed the first time. ✔️CHECK EVERY SINGLE LINK. Whether it’s backlinks or links to other pages on your site or links to your social media channels. You are really rocking this… ✔️Click on EACH item in your menu to confirm that it’s linking to the correct page. ✔️Check EVERY link in the header and the footer of the site. ✔️Make sure your contact information is UP TO DATE. Your phone number, email address, social media channels… ✔️Fill out any forms on your site to make sure they are working properly. Now you’re just showing off… ✔️Update any images. ✔️Add alt-text to all the photos you have on your site. You did it, your site is up to date! If this sounds like more than you have the time or inclination to tackle I highly recommend you hire someone to do it for you. Someone like me! |
