Are you running for office in the upcoming provincial election?
If you are planning to use the internet to help build any kind of new business or venture you need some time to build a presence so it’s there for you when you are ready to launch. It might seem a bit early but you need to: ➡️Get your social media in order. ➡️Create your website. ➡️Start building your email list. I know the election isn’t until June but you have to have all your ducks in a row so you are ready for when things get serious. Remember the incumbent already has everything in place. 🐥🐥🐥 It’s all pieces of a puzzle that will work together. Start with social media and then once you get that up & running, you can create a landing page and then start collecting email addresses so you are ready to send out a newsletter. 🐥Social media: This is a bit more complicated & will need a bit more effort, but it is definitely worth it. You will need accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, yes Facebook! 🐥🐥 A landing page: It’s really all you need as far as a website is concerned, at least until you get elected. It gives you some credibility, a place for people to find your contact information & find out a little bit about you AND a place to collect email addresses for a newsletter subscription list AND links to your social media pages. 🐥🐥🐥Email subscription list: Start collecting email addresses. You will be so thankful that you did! Today I’m going to give you some tips on making sure that your social media presence is everything you want it to be. You need to make sure all your social media profiles are up to date. ➡️I would suggest having profiles on Twitter, Facebook & Instagram. ⭐️⭐️Update your Linked In profile so that it shows you are running for office but you probably don’t have to post on it. Which ones & why? ➡️Twitter: This is where you will connect with other politicians, journalists, experts, not-for-profits. Although it is the angriest of all the platforms, it’s a great way to connect with people & have actual conversations. Beware though, Twitter eats up A LOT of time. ➡️Facebook: You may want to bypass using Facebook but I think it’s a real mistake. It still has 3 times as many subscribers as Instagram. ➡️Instagram: Here you will connect with younger voters, it’s prettier, but not as easy to share other people's ideas. ⭐️⭐️If you’ve decided that you aren’t going to keep contributing to a platform with which you already have an account, create a post that directs followers to your other platforms. What to do next? ➡️Update or create your profiles. Make sure your contact information is up to date and that your profiles represent how you would like to be seen by voters. ➡️Create a page on Facebook and make sure you have a professional profile on Instagram, you just need a plain old account on Twitter. ➡️Now you can start following other pages. Party leaders & official party page: They should provide you with safe, professional posts that you can share/retweet/post in stories. Follow their lead when posting. Not for profits: Look who the party leaders are following… Journalists: Local & provincial Stakeholders: Think education, long term care, health care… Small businesses, unions, residents associations, BIAs... Your competition: I would suggest following your direct competition and the other party leaders, both federally and provincially. It’s good to know what they are up to and where their focus is. You don’t need to be on social media every day (at least not yet) but I advise setting aside some time every week to: ⭐️Go through your feeds and like, comment, share/retweet & bookmark posts from the mothership, stakeholders, local businesses... ⭐️Create AND schedule content for your social media AND your website. The more organized you are, the better your social media feeds & your website will work AND the less time it will take to feed them. Take some time to master your social media before you move on to creating a webpage. Check back in January for a post about that!
